Abstract

1457991 Tamper-indicating cap W E HIDDING 10 Jan 1975 [30 Jan 1974] 1041/75 Heading B8T A screw-threaded tamper-indicating cap 10 of the type having a break-away ring portion 16 with ratchet pawls 26 engaging one or more teeth on the container neck is characterized in that a plurality of breakable connectors 18 are provided between the ring 16 and cap body 14, the connectors 18 being individually joined to said pawls for holding the pawls in engagement with the container tooth to ensure breakage of the connectors upon unscrewing of the cap. The ring 16 is also formed with outwardly bending sections 30 disposed between pawls 26 and arranged to be more flexible than the pawls such that the pawls can slide over the teeth of the bottle neck when the cap 10 is applied to a bottle. Knurling 34 is provided on the cap body 14 to help transmit the necessary torque for breaking the connectors 18. The tamperindicating cap may be made from polyethylene or acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene polymers.
