Abstract
565,734. Electricity supply. WHITCHER, J. March 16, 1943, No. 4249. [Class 38 (iv)] Transformer arrangements. The effect of an inductive reactance with shunt characteristic, suitable for neutralizing the capacity reactance of a transmission system, is obtained by means of two windings on one or two transformers, or on a reactor connected in parallel relation to a supply circuit, and arranged to produce a current circulating through them to excite leakage fields. Fig. 2 shows two transformers of which unequal numbers of turns of the primary windings P1, P2 are connected differentially by the tap changing gear C. Tertiary windings having unequal turns may be similarly connected or connected in reversed series. Fig. 4 shows booster transformers BT1, BT2 arranged to inject unequal voltages into the primary circuits of two transformers in parallel connection. Fig. 7 shows two parallel connected sections of a reactor winding on a single. core with unequal turns connected in parallel; the same arrangement may be applied to a winding on a transformer, which winding may be primary, secondary or tertiary, the winding sections in each case being arranged to promote leakage reactance.
