Abstract

561,884. Bolting. BOOTH, J. H. Jan. 9, 1943, Nos. 449 and 3276. [Class 89 (i)] Relates to screw and nut fastenings for securing together two or more members one of which is of tubular or other hollow section and consists in a construction whereby separate distance pieces, surrounding the bolt to support the walls of the hollow member, are dispensed with, the nut itself serving this purpose. In securing a transparent panel 10 to a tubular member 23 with the aid of strips or rails 12, 25 and interposed packing 14, bolts 16 are supported in countersinks in the rail 12-and fitted with nuts 18 threaded for a part of their length only, the remainder being in the form of a tubular extension 20 that may abut the rail 25 or be formed with a part cylindrical end to engage the inner surface of the member 23. The nuts may have heads formed at 22 to engage the tube and prevent rotation during tightening the bolt, and slotted at 21 to render them self-locking as described in Specification 561,863.
