Abstract

561,747. Stoppers. SMITH, S. H., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 30, 1942, No. 15239. [Class 125 (iii)] A closure device of the screw-plug type, for liquid fuel &c. containers, is provided with a separable locking member or bar 3 housed in or cut-away portion 7 of the plug and screw threaded on its outer periphery 8 to engage the threads in the container orifice. A bolt &c. 10, passing freely through the closure top, engages a threaded bore 11 in the member 3. When the plug has been screwed into its socket, the bolt &c. 10 is tightened to force the threads 8 into firm frictional engagement with the threads in the container orifice so to lock the plug against accidental rotation. The member 3 is preferably provided with an upstanding portion 9 and influenced by a leaf spring 13. The bar 3 may extend right across the plug and bear screw threads at both ends. In this case; two bolts &c. 10 may be provided to effect the locking action. The bar 3, at the lower end of the bore 11, may be transversely slotted in order that it may flex under the pressure of the locking action and so lock also the bolt &c. 10 against rotation. In a further modification, the bar 3 is replaced by a threaded disc carried below the plug and movable axially thereof to effect the locking of the plug by frictional engagement of the disc threads with the threads of the socket. Sealing washers 2, 14 are preferably provided.
