Abstract

1184. Terry, A. E. Jan. 18. Locking nuts &c.- A nut 4 is locked on a bolt by a spring coil 3 fitting the threads of the bolt. The coil lies in a recess 5 in the nut and is secured at the end 6 in a' hole 7, the other end 8 being left free. The coil allows the nut to be screwed up, but tightens on the bolt when unscrewing occurs. When the nut is to be unscrewed, the coil is unwound to a small extent and is retained in that position by a pin inserted in a hole 10 in the nut. The coil may be arranged in a recess in the base of the nut.
