Abstract

560,368. Flash lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 16, 1942, No. 17867, Convention date, Dec. 23, 1941. [Class 9 (ii)] A flash lamp comprises a bulb 10, leading-in wires 16, a filament 17 in the bulb connecting the leading-in wires, and a bead 19, 20 of fulminating material mounted between the leading-in wires remote from a portion of the bulb and arranged to be ignited by the filament, the part of the fulminating material remote from the specified portion of the bulb being provided with a thick coating 22 of material such as cellulose-acetate so that the burning particles of the fulminating material are directed on to the remote portion of the bulb referred to, so lessening the risk of cracking of the bulb. The filament may be dipped in red phosphorus and the ends 21 of the fulminating material may enclose the upper ends of the leading-in wires. The arrangement may be used in a bulb open to the air, or enclosed to contain a gas under pressure, or in a bulb where the fulminating material is the sole source of actinic light, or where the fulminating- material acts in conjunction with metal ribbon or foil enclosed in the bulb. Specification 548,297 is referred to.
