Abstract
253,826. Claus, B. Feb. 2, 1926. Arc lamps.-In arc lamps wherein an auxiliary incandescing body is heated by the light source, substantially all the heat radiated by the arc is concentrated on to the body by means of a reflector or lens or both. In the lamp shown in Fig. 1, the reflector a<1> is formed on the surface of an ellipsoidal bulb and is adapted to reflect all the heat from the filament or arc b to a refractory body c placed at opposite foci. Both a heat source and a body c may be placed at each focus. In the lamp shown in Fig. 5, the heat from two sources b<1>, b<2> is concentrated upon one body c by two rejectors a<1>, a<11>. The shape of the reflector may be such that the heat source b and the body c are nearly coincident, as shown in Fig. 8. The upper part of the bulb may be shaped as the heat reflector, and the lower part to suit the light source, as shown in Figs. 12 and 15, the part a<4> of the bulb being formed as a light reflector. The upper part of the bulb may be sealed off from the lower by a heat-transmitting partition or lens f, the lower part a<3> being removably secured to the upper by a screw or other union g and left filled with air.
