Abstract

1,202,695. Indicator lamps. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD. 30 Aug., 1967 [2 Sept., 1966], No. 39234/66. Heading F4R. A colour light indicator system having a single viewing aperture adapted to be illuminated by light of two or more different colours comprises separate light sources for each of the colours and a plurality of reflecting facets arranged to reflect the light from the sources through the aperture. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, having two sources 11, 12, the facets are arranged in two sets 1, 3, 5, 7 and 2, 4, 6, 8 which are disposed in radial planes passing through the respective sources and are formed on the rear wall of a housing 10 having a viewing aperture 13. The facets may be of the same or different sizes. In a modification three light sources are employed and there are three sets of facets, each set being disposed in radial planes passing through two of the sources. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 10, the facets 73-76 are of frusto-conical form and are arranged around the rear surface of a circular block 70 of transparent plastics material. Six lamps are mounted in separate blocks 72 of coloured transparent plastics material which are shaped so that they fit together around a recess in the block 70 and externally form a hexagon. The facets slope in alternate directions so that, in a diametral plane which passes through the centre of the block 70 and any one of the lamps, alternate facets are cut in lines which pass through the lamp. The assembly of the block 70 and the blocks 72 is metallized over its whole surface except for a viewing window 77. In various modifications different numbers of lamps are used, and externally the assemblies may be of square, rectangular, triangular or trapezium shape to enable them to be fitted together in various ways, e.g. to form animated diagrams. Internally the facets may be arranged in the form of a square or may be of elliptical or other curvilinear shape. The assemblies may be provided with electrical contact pins (57, Fig. 8, not shown) so that they can be plugged-in to a housing.
