Abstract

559,315. Metal vapour lamps. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES, Ltd., ALDINGTON, J. N:, and MEADOWCROFT, A. J. Aug. 27, 1942, No. 12092. [Class 39 (i)] A metal vapour discharge lamp has an electrode 2 which has the portion of the surface on which the discharge terminates shaped to a form other than circular. The lamp is heavily loaded in order to cause the discharge to cover this area and thus to cause the cross section of the arc to be affected. The anode 4 may be bevelled off or sloped, as shown in dotted lines, in order to give a bigger solid angle for the emission of light from the arc. The loading for the lamp may be about 10 K.W., the length and diameter of the cathode 2 20 mm. and 12 mm., and the length and diameter of the anode 4 35 mm. and 18 mm. The arc gap is between 9 and 10 mms.
