Abstract

1,042,213. Discharge lamps. PEK LABS Inc. April 27, 1964, No. 17271/64. Heading HID. An arc lamp is started by applying normal mains voltage which melts a conductive bridge 40, e.g. of molybdenum, in contact with the anode 18 and cathode 28. The bridge may be triangular and supported from the envelope 12 by a wire 42 as shown, or may be in the shape of a cone, a cylinder with a conical end, or a flat member with a narrower central portion (Figs. 5-7, not shown). A coil 38 on the cathode 28 regulates heat dissipation and contains arc stabilizing material.
