Abstract

559,136. Road marking blocks. WADDON, CONCRETE & BUILDING MATERIAL CO., Ltd., BURREN, F. J., and PIKE, R. J. Nov. 24, 1942, No. 16653. [Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] A stud or block of the type which are set in the surface of roads 5 to form traffic controlling lines comprises a cylindrical non-metallic casing 1 circular in cross-section and open at one or both ends. When one end only is open the closed end 3 forms an upstanding boss which may be convex in shape, and when both ends are open the top end is closed by a similarly shaped plug which may extend down to the bottom of the casing and may be cast in place. The interior of the stud is filled, either before or after insertion in situ, with material 7 different from that forming the casing itself. The bottom of this material, when hardened, may be concave, so as to facilitate storage &c. by nesting with the end 3 of the adjacent plug. Grouting may be poured into this cavity 10, and may also be allowed to seep up the sides of the stud to assist in fixing. The casing 1 is of concrete, cement, asbestos, glass, earthenware, or a. moulded or extruded synthetic resin, with or without pigment and fillers and with reinforcements of buried metal rods, network &c. The material 7 may be cement, concrete &c. and may be similarly reinforced.
