Abstract
980,953. Building blocks; walls. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. March 23, 1962 [April 21, 1961], No. 14484/61. Headings E1B and E1V. [Also in Division B6] In a block comprising concrete, layers 5, 6 on either side of a foamed plastics core 1, the core and layers are held together by a common reinforcement of expanded metal 4, or of wires, or metal rods. The block is also provided with grooves only, or with ribs 9 and grooves 10, on two or more edges. In particular, vertical edges as shown interlock, or when these are both grooved receive a metal tie rod and grout, the horizontal edges being grooved and receiving a weatherstrip. The faces of the block are smooth or indented and may comprise white concrete in which are embedded particles of polystyrene, sand, or stone aggregate. The concrete layers may contain further reinforcement. Slabs of plastic having slits in which are inserted the reinforcement comprise the core and the concrete layers are cast on to this, alternatively the plastic is foamed and set between the precast concrete layers.
