Abstract

558,950. Machine guns. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and TOMPKINS, W. C. May 2, 1942, No. 5951. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to cartridge feed mechanism for machine guns of the kind in which ammunition on a belt 17 is fed to a gun designed for feed from a box magazine 16 by a roller 3 driven by a spring 6 which urges the rounds, when stripped from the belt, to the gun feed port. According to the invention, a belt feed roller 1 driven by external power is provided which is rotated at the same rate as the rounds roller, preferably by the hydraulic servomotor means described in Specification 558,949, this rotation serving to rewind the spring 6.
