Abstract

1,096,215. Machine guns. HONEYWELL Inc. March 9, 1965 [March 18, 1964], No. 10051/65. Heading F3C. A machine gun comprises two rotors 10, 11, each having a number of equispaced halfcartridge chambers 24, 26 and coming into contiguous mating relationship on rotation of the rotors so that one chamber 24 and one chamber 26 form a complete cartridge chamber in front of a barrel 19 and in which the cartridge may be fired. The cartridges on a belt are fed between the rotors by intermittent rotation of rotor 11 by a handle 28 through gearing 31, shaft 29 and Geneva mechanism 32, 33. A longitudinally movable cam member 51 controlled by a cam 61 on the shaft 29 through pivoted lever 53 and pin-and-slot mechanism 58, 57 acts to lock the rotor 10 in contiguous mating relationship with rotor 11 when the two half-cartridge chambers form the complete chamber, a firing-pin 42 previously loaded by a spring by a cam 43 during the rotation of shaft 29 being released at the same time. After firing, continued rotation of shaft 29 causes the cam 51 to move so as to release the rotor 10 to permit it to move laterally away from rotor 11 as this begins to rotate again.
