Abstract

619,756. Machine guns. GABLER, J., and GRAYBLER CORPORATION (ENGLAND), Ltd. June 28, 1940, No. 11032. Addition to 619,665. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to machine guns and automatic cannon as described and claimed in the parent Specification in which the inflow of an explosive gaseous mixture to the firing chamber 2a actuates a piston member 75a which in turn directly controls the feed of one of a succession of projectiles 100 to the breech chamber, the shutting off of the supply of gaseous mixture, and the timing of the firing. According to the present invention, the gun has twin barrels 1a, 1b and loading means therefor comprising a pair of sleeve pistons 75a, 75b which operate in a reciprocal manner so that, when one piston is advanced to the firing position, the other is withdrawn for loading. In the form shown, the pistons carry racks gearing with a main pinion 7 which has a pin- and-slot engagement 10, 15 with a pinion 14, Fig. 2, for driving a transverse rack member 12 that actuates a rotary inlet and cut-off distributer valve 6 for the gaseous charges. The rack member 12 also drives ratchet sleeves 91a, 91b, Fig. 4, which rotate drums 21, Fig. 6, alternately feeding the ammunition belts 39. The main pinion 7 also has pin engagement 41 with a spring-controlled rotary disc 42, Fig. 2, which rotates an electric contact device 43 that times the firing of sparking-plugs 3a, 36 to explode alternately the gaseous charges.
