[Class 9 (i)] A dummy charge which is ejected rearwardly on the discharge of an open-breech firearm to eliminate recoil, is disrupted into harmless fragments by the explosion of a portion of its contents after a predetermined time interval. The dummy charge which may comprise a package 3 and juxtaposed obturating package 14, both containing non-explosive powder 16, 15, as described in Specification 577,318, may be provided with an explosive charge 20, a detonator 19 for its initiation and a delay train 18 which is adapted either to be in ignition contact with the propellant charge 4, 'or to be ignited by an electric fuze-head forming a portion of the circuit employed for the electrical firing of the main propellant charge 4 of the firearm. The delay train 18 may consist of highly-compressed burning powder 23, Fig. 2, e.g., 2 : 4 or 4 : 6 dinitroresorcinol together with the same material or other fast-burning powder lightly tamped as at 21 within a resinous tube which is located within a tube 2, 4 Fig. 3, having a detonator 25. The detonator tube is coupled by a rubber sleeve 28, Fig. 4, to a textile detonating fuze comprising a detonable explosive core 27 of pentaerythrite-tetranitrate or cyolotrimethylene-trinitramine within a textile covering 26. The explosive core is sympathetically detonated by the detonator 25 on passage of flame from the burning powder 23 through the pinhole in the tube 22.
