Abstract

638,974. Simulating smallarms fire; blasting. LOWE, A. J., COLVILLE, J. F., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 14, 1945, No. 30438. [Classes 9 (i), 9 (ii) and 119.] In an explosive device for producing a succession of detonations for simulating smallarms fire, and which may also be used for blasting, and comprising a number of tubes 2 each containing a detonating charge 24 and a delay fuze 25 and joined in series in such a way that the detonating charge ignites the delay fuze of the next succeeding tube, the tubes are connected by a flexible tube 6 of smaller bore than the tubes 2. The flexible tube 6 minimizes the explosive pressure-waves igniting the delay fuzes which might otherwise burn too quickly. A tubular sheath 1 enclosing the tube 2 is crimped on the tube 6 against a flanged steel tube 7 inserted in the end of the tube 6. The delay fuzes 25 are contained in tubes 13 inserted in the tubes 2 with the interposition of paper sleeves 3. The series of detonations are initiated by a fuze held by an adaptor 5 which ignites a priming composition 20, delay composition 21 and a flash composition 22 contained in a tube 4 in the first tube 2. In blasting, detonating fuzes leading to the blasting charges are connected to the tubes 1 in order to fire successive shots.
