Abstract

539,855. Machine guns. ROE & CO., Ltd., A V., and REDRUP, C. B. Feb. 7, 1940, No. 2355. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to means for feeding a cartridge belt through a guideway leading to the feed box of an automatic gun, and comprises a motor for driving the belt so that the cartridges succesively engage a stop to stall the motor, the feed being resumed when a cartridge released from the stop by the pull on the belt exerted either by a further motor or by the gun feed mechanism. A cartridge belt d is fed along guides f to the gun by a sprocket c driven by an auxiliary hydraulic motor a which stalls when the belt engages a stop surface f<SP>1</SP>. At each discharge of the gun, the pull on the belt disengages the belt from the stop surface, the auxiliary motor then acting to advance another cartridge against the stop surface. When the last cartridge has passed the sprocket c, a spring finger h rises to lock the sprocket and stall the motor.
