Abstract
557,860. Sliding clasp fasteners. LIGHTNING FASTENERS, Ltd. (Talon, Inc.) June 5, 1942, No. 7663. [Class 44] In a slider for a sliding-clasp fastener having a locking tongue 16 integral with a lever 11 acting as a pull-tab the tongue being upwardly directed as shown when the lever is in the fully unlocked position injury to the tongue in this position as by pressure of a flat iron 17, Fig. 3, is avoided by forming the end portions 15 of the lever trunnions 14 of reduced cross-section and arranging that these end portions slightly overlap, as in plan, Fig. 5, the edges of the aperture 9 in the top wing of the slider and through which the tongue passes into engagement with the fastener members when the lever is moved to locking position. When pressure is applied to the upturned tongue by the iron 17 the sharp edges of the aperture bite into or sheer the portions 15 allowing the tongue to be depressed without injury to a lever flush with the lugs 10 under which the trunnions are mounted, as in Fig. 3, the lugs then taking any further pressure. The lugs, of U-form, are struck up from the aperture 9 and are first made divergent, Fig. 6, to facilitate insertion of the trunnions in the manner shown. They are then pressed inwards into parallelism to overlie the trunnions.
