[Class 44] In a sliding-clasp fastener of the kind provided with sealing means to provide a fluid-tight closure the foundation strips 3 which carry the fastener members 4, 5 are arranged to embrace a substantial portion (shown as approximately half the circumference) of the sealing members 1, 2. Members 1, 2 are shown as tubular (circular in cross section when the fasteners are released). As shown a bonding-strip 7 of rubber-coated fabric is vulcanized between each member 1, 2 and its foundation strip 3, which is shown as a single strip with fastener members attached to both edges. Strip is secured to the garment &c. 8 by strips 9, 10 of adhesive tape further secured by stitching. Various modifications are described in which each strip 3 shown is replaced by a pair of tapes each provided with fastener members on one edge. The inner and outer fastener members are operated by separate sliders, not shown, the inner slider having operating means extending between the strips 1, 2, so as to be accessible from the outer side. When both rows of fastener members are engaged the sealing strips are tightly held in an embracing loop or formed by strips 3 and characteristic of the invention, effective sealing requiring engagment of both sets of fasteners. At the end at which the stringers are permanently connected the seating members are tightly bound,by rubber and fabric 11, 12, Fig. 6, and intermediate spaces filled by fillets 13, all vulcanized in place. In a modification, Fig. 10, a sliding-clasp fastener is provided on one face; the closure at the other face being completed by tabs (or a strip) 30 permanently secured along one edge, the tabs being drawn over the sealing members and secured by pressstud fasteners 32, 33. Additional press-studs 34 are provided by which the tabs are held when out of use by sockets 35. Alternative crosssections of solid sealing members are described for use in place of the tubular members 1. 2 shown.
