Abstract
871,458. Sliding clasp fasteners. HANSEN, J. G. Jan. 13, 1959 [Jan. 14, 1958 (2)], No. 1190/59. Class 44. A method of manufacturing a sliding clasp fastener includes the steps of providing a strip 11 of resiliently flexible material comprising two parallel longitudinal spine lengths 14 joined by a weblike middle strip thinner than the spine lengths, of subjecting the web-like middle strip to a blanking-out or like operation to provide a series of longitudinally spaced transverse ribs 10 joining the spine lengths, adjacent ribs being separated by a blanked-out space 12, of folding the blanked-out strip about a longitudinal axis and bringing the two spine lengths towards each other, the ribs 10 assuming a substantially arcuate shape and of securing the spine lengths to a web 32, two stringers being adapted to be co-actingly associated in a sliding clasp fastener. As shown, the spine lengths 14 are formed with a bead 16 and a recess 18 which interengage when the strip is folded. The folded strip is secured to a substantially Y-shaped web 32 by stitching 34. In another construction, Fig. 6, the ribs 10 engage over beaded portions 22 of a web 24 and the strip is secured by stitching passing through holes 26 in the spine lengths. In Fig. 9 (not shown) ribs 10 are formed with enlargements projecting into the blanked-out spaces and also are formed obliquely to the folding axis of the strip.
