[Class 44] A sliding clasp type fastener comprises two strip components of resilient material, each having a ridge and a groove adapted to be brought into interlocking engagement with the groove and ridge of the other. In the form of Fig. 1, the strips are adapted to be sewn to the garment to be fastened through parts 1 and 2, reinforced at 9 and 10 along their edges. One of the thickened inner parts 7 is formed with a round groove 3 and a trapezoidal ridge 4 and the other part 8 with a ridge and groove to fit. The components are fastened by means of a sliding clasp or by finger pressure. In the form of Fig. 2 both the ridges and grooves are rounded so that the strips are identical and have mating surfaces of " S " form. In a similar form, Fig. 3, the ridges are a looser fit in the grooves but are each provided with an oblique ribbed surface 13, preventing disengagement and allowing a slight longitudinal relative movement between the strips. In the form of Fig. 4, each component carries at least two ridges and two grooves closely interfitting when engaged together. The combined section of the interlocking parts 7 and 8 is of elliptical section and is connected to the attachment parts 1 and 2 through thinned parts 14, 15. The parts 1 and 2 are off-set from the centre and under tension the united parts 7, 8 turn about the attachment parts (as allowed by the thinned parts 14, 15) to drive the interfitting ridges and grooves more closely into engagement.
