[Class 44] In sealing means for a sliding clasp fastener, a resilient and deformable sealing strip 14, Fig. 2, shaped for example as shown in Fig. 3, is secured to the outer side of each of the fastener portions 12, each strip extending across the outer faces of the fastener elements to approximately their pitch line and adapted to be flexed by movement of the slider, and each strip being provided along the free edge with a flexible lip portion 20, Fig. 3, which in its released condition slopes outwardly beyond the pitch line but which when the fastener is closed abuts against the tip portion of the other sealing strip. The flexibility of the tip portion may be attained by providing a hingeing portion 18 of reduced thickness. Preferably, counterbalancing sealing strips 26, 261 are secured to the inner or under sides of the fastener tapes, and formed to meet in a tongue and groove 28 or other edge lock. In a modification, the sealing strips are of the section shown in Fig. 5 when unstressed, but when in contact meet as shown in Fig. 4. The attachment bases of the strips 14a are brought nearer to the fastener elements by eliminating the flanges of the upper plate of the slider 32a, the lower flanges 36 effecting the opening and closing. Sealing at the ends of the fastener may be effected by blocks 40, 40<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, of rubber &c. with portions 41 which enter the openings in the nose of the slider when the latter is pulled to the end of the fastener ; points 42 then abut against a rib 44 on the slider.
