In a sliding clasp fastener of the kind comprising tooth-like elements provided along beaded edges of a pair of stringers and arranged to be brought into and out of interlocking engagement by a slider, the front part of each element is T-shaped with projections upon the transverse limb arranged to engage behind the transverse limb of the next adjacent element of the other fastener portion, the front of the transverse limb of each element being disposed substantially in abutting engagement with the bead of the opposite fastener portion when the fastener is closed. In the arrangement shown, identical fastener elements 19 and 19a are clamped to beaded edges 18, 18a of respective stringers 17, 17a and each comprises a substantially rectangular body 20 having an aperture 21 for the bead 18 or 18a and is formed with substantially triangular side notches 26, 27 defining a substantially T-shaped front portion 16, 33. The portion 33 is formed with projections 34, 35 which are complementary to the notches 26, 27 of the next adjacent element. The front surface of each bead is disposed beyond the fronts of the portions 33, each of which is.formed with a recess 36 which is complementary to a rounded end 22 in the element 19 or 19a. In a modification, the front surface of each element may be flat and the element may be somewhat curved about a transverse axis. The invention is applicable to fasteners in which each element is formed with one or two depressions on one face and complementary projections on the other.
