1417714 Sliding-clasp-fasteners LIGHTNING FASTENERS Ltd 21 Aug 1973 [22 Aug 1972] 39094/72 Heading E2S A sliding-clasp-fastener comprising two stringers 10, 11 each stringer having a fabric tape 12 and a series of coupling elements 13 secured along one edge portion of the tape, the two series being connected together at a bottom end thereof, each stringer tape having along its whole length a portion 16 of its width of one face thereof provided with a heat- or pressure-sensitive adhesive, and a band 18 of heat- or pressure-sensitive, adhesive extending transversely of the bottom end portion of the tapes and secured to said one face thereof whereby, when the fastener is secured to an article by means of the adhesive, a fluid-tight seal is formed by the adhesive between the fastener and the article. As shown, each fabric tape 12 has a series of coupling elements 13 consisting of a coil of plastics filament secured, by a stitched cord 13a, along an edge portion of one face 14, the lower ends of the coupling elements 13 being connected together by a pin 15. Each band; 16 comprises a coating of hotmelt adhesive 17 along the whole length of the respective tape an auxiliary fabric tape 18, completely coated on both surfaces with hot-melt adhesive 19, being secured across the tapes 12 immediately below the coupling elements 13. When the fastener is adhesively secured into an article e.g. a bootee, a fluidtight seal is provided at the bottom and sides of the coupling elements 13, 13 between the fastener and the article. The auxiliary tape (20), Fig. 3 not shown, is of such a height as to fit neatly between the bands 16, 16. The auxiliary tape 18 may be omitted, in which case a film of adhesive material is applied across the stringer tapes. The auxiliary tape 18 may extend over, and be pressed onto, the lower ends of the coupling elements 13.
