Abstract

556,321. Cooling exhaust. BLANCHARD, J. G. March 37,1942, No. 4087. [Class 7 (ii)] The emergence of flame with the exhaust of aircraft or vehicle engines is prevented by providing along the exhaust chamber or manifold 1 a passage 3 through which air is forced by the motion of the aircraft &c. and forming the passage with a series of transverse passages 9 through which the exhaust enters laterally into flat elongated nozzles 10 directed rearwardly, each nozzle being at right angles to the one before it ; or the nozzles may be slightly inclined to one another in staggered fashion. The air passage is preferably arranged close alongside the fuselage or nacelle.
