Abstract
556,062. Sparking-plugs. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. July 21, 1942, No. 10124. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1941. Addition to 494,701. [Class 7 (iv)] [Also in Groups XXIII and XXXVI] In a plug having a central electrode in two parts 12, 20 with a conductive glass seal between them bonded to the inner surface of the insulator 4, the lower electrode part 12 rests on a shoulder 10 in the bore of the insulator and is approximately of equal length and breadth. As shown, the part 12 is formed with a flange 14 having slots 16 at right angles to each other to grip the glass seal. The latter may comprise a pellet 18a of borosilicate glass mixed with copper or graphite, and a second pellet, forming the seal 22a, of a lead borosilicate glass mixed with copper. In assembling, the glass is softened by heating and pressure is applied to the part 20. The part 12 may be of a nickel alloy, with or without a copper core.
