Abstract

558,405. Sparking plugs. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Nov. 13, 1942, No. 16053. Convention date, Feb. 9. [Class 7 (iv)] In a method of making a sparking plug a hollow electrode 6 containing a bonding material 12 and a heat conducting core 10 is placed with sealing material and a terminal 18 in an insulator 2 and the loose assembly is heated to soften the bonding and sealing materials. The sealing material 14 comprises a pellet of borosilicate glass and finely divided conducting material which is crushed in situ. A pellet 16 of lead borosilicate glass and finely divided conducting material is forced when melted by pressure on the terminal into recesses 4 in the insulator and around the screwthread 4 of the terminal.
