Abstract

651,581. Sparking plugs. K. L. G. SPARKING PLUGS, Ltd., CARINGTON, C. M., and SHOOBERT, G. W. July 16, 1948, No. 19195. [Class 7(iv)] In a sparking plug having a central electrode 11 confined between an internal shoulder 20, which is in the insulator 10 and situated near the firing point 22, and a seal 21 which is rigid with the wall of the insulator, expansion of the electrode relative to the insulator is permitted by interposing an element, such as a disc, Fig. 3 (not shown), made up of asbestos or mica washers, or by forming a thin walled cavity 14 in the electrode 11 ; a lightly-rolled depression 15 may be provided. The electrode is made of copper or silver with a platinum tip 22 and is sealed by a vitreous filling. A molybdenum wire 12 connects the electrode to the terminal 13.
