560,178. Sparking-plugs. CARINGTON, C. M., SHOOBERT, G. W:, WHEATLEY, C. C. H., and K.L.G. SPARKING PLUGS, Ltd. Aug. 10, 1942, No. 11186. [Class 7 (iv)] An electrode 17 is packed in the bore of the insulator 11 by inserting into the bore a filler 22 comprising glass, preferably boro-silicate glass, and clay, such as Bentonite, mixed with water to the consistency of a thick cream, inserting the electrode into the filler and heating the assembly to between 800‹ C. and 1050‹ C. without application of pressure to vitrify the filler. The platinum firing-point 18 fits closely in an aperture in the insulator. Alternatively, two firing-points may extend through lateral holes in the insulator. The silver or copper electrode is connected by a molybdenum wire 20 to the terminal 21. The wire may be replaced in part by a resistance.
