Abstract

637,218. Insulators. BULLERS, Ltd., LANGTON, J. L., and ROBINSON, W. G. April 14, 1948, No. 10396. [Class 36] A conductor formed of a chemically and electrolytically inert material is disposed in the leakage path across the surface of an insulator and connected to one of the electrodes. The conductor may be formed of carbon or platinum. In a cap and pin type insulator the conductor 10 may extend from the mouth of the cavity 11 and around the under-surface of the shed 13, electrical connection between the conductor and pin 12 being made by conductive cement 14. Alternatively, the pin 12 may be encircled by a carbon sleeve extending into the cement 14 and projecting from the cavity 11. In an insulator of the type having a metal cap at each end, the conducting coating extends beneath one metal cap and a short distance along the outer surface of the insulator.
