Abstract
623,511. Insulators. TAYLOR, TUNNICLIFF, & CO., Ltd., and PIRIE, J. H. May 8, 1947, No. 12428. [Class 36] A lead-through or bushing insulator is provided with a conductive coating, the resistance of which is varied to produce, at the operating frequency, an approximately uniform voltage gradient distribution over the coating in an axial direction. A bushing 1, through which passes the conductor 2 is provided with a conducting glaze 7 extending from within a short distance of the upper terminal 6 to a metal flange 8 on the earthed plate 3. The high voltage end 9 of the bushing is covered with an insulating glaze. The conductive coating may be of the composition described in Specification 577,748, and has a progressively increasing conductivity from the upper end of the bushing to the earth end. This may be effected by increasing the thickness of the conductive glaze towards the earthed part or by circumferential bands of decreasing specific resistance.
