[Class 36.] A high tension sleeve insulator with condenser linings and an insulating fi I i n g contains a the points of maximum electric stress fluid or plastic insulating material of a higher dielectric constant than that of the material used as a filling, the proportion of the material of higher dielectric constant being not less than 5 per cent or more than 70 per cent of the active volume. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, between the conductor 1 and an earthed electrode 2 are conducting linings 3 separated by dielectrics 4, 5, the dielectric constant of the dielectric 5 being higher than that of the dielectric 4. In the construction of Fig. 4, the electrode 2 is bedded in solid insulation and the conducting linings 3 may be formed in a fluid or plastic dielectric on sheet-metal cylinders, or the linings may be bedded in thin wall tubes of insulation which may be assembled as shown in Fig. 5. The electrodes 2 are carried in insulating tubes 6, and the tapered or conical ends of central body members 5 engage tubes 7 of solid insulating material.
