Abstract

1,071,050. Fault testing. FELTEN & GUILLEAUME CARLSWERK A.G. March 25, 1966 [March 26, 1965], No. 13319/66. Heading G1U. Faults in the insulation of an electric conductor 1 are detected by earthing the conductor and drawing it through a tube 2 which is made of insulating material and filled with an insulating fluid. Electrodes at the ends of tube 2 are also earthed. Two axially spaced annular electrodes 3 in tube 2 are each connected through a choke 4 to one pole of a high voltage source 5, the other pole of which is connected to an earthed centre tapping on the primary coil 6 of a differential transformer. The ends of coil 6 are connected through capacitors 7 to electrodes 3. A cavity in the insulation of conductor 1 will, as the conductor is drawn through tube 2, pass through annular electrodes 3 one after the other and initiate electric discharges which will be indicated, with a time interval between them, on an indicating device connected across the secondary coil 8 of the differential transformer.
