The current transformers of a switchgear are provided with an extra winding, one end of which is earthed while the other is connected to a test terminal. This permits a test current to be applied to the transformers without requiring special connections to the primary. In Fig. 2, the primary of the transformers for each phase comprises a rod 25 connected between the incoming cables 27 and an isolating contact 21; a second isolating contact 17 is connected to bus-bar 10 allowing the cable to be connected to the bus-bar by a circuit breaker 18. The rod 25 is surrounded by an insulating sleeve 34 and a conducting sleeve 35, forming the extra winding, one end of which is earthed at terminal 36 and the other connected to a test terminal 38 accessible only after withdrawing the circuit breaker 18. The switchgear has a plug-in voltage transformer 31. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the circuit breaker is movable to select duplicate bus-bars.
