Abstract

997,126. Switchgear structures; insulating connections between conductors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 1, 1964 [April 1, 1963], No. 12834/63. Heading H2B and H2E. The vertically withdrawable circuit breaker unit 20 of an electric switchgear structure comprises a vacuum switch 7 one of whose terminals 8 constitutes one of the isolator contacts. The vacuum switch is operated through a spring loaded (17) linkage 14, 15 and a shaft 19 common to three phases by a spring 16 controlled by the usual latching and releasing mechanisms 6 (not shown). The three vacuum switches SW1, 2, 3 of the three phase switch gear may be arranged in line parallel to the line of the corresponding other isolator terminals 9<SP>1</SP>, 9<SP>11</SP>, 9<SP>111</SP> (Fig. 2, not shown) or alternatively (Fig. 3) these parts may be alternately interchanged. In a modified arrangement (Fig. 4, not shown) the vacuum switch is inclined to the vertical so that its terminals are separated horizontally by a distance equal to that between the isolator terminals 8, 9. The unit 20 is traversible to earthing positions 2, 3 for the cable CA and bus-bars respectively. For higher voltages two or more vacuum switches may be connected in series. Connections between horizontal and vertical bus-bars may be insulated by embedding in synthetic resin SR or in an insulating plastics sheath IE associated with one of the conductors C1 which is bolted at H to the second conductor C2, an opening at P 2 being closed by a cast resin seal CB<SP>1</SP>.
