Abstract
1,141,962. Switchgear structures; vacuum switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 Feb., 1967 [18 March, 1966], No. 11994/66. Heading H1N. A pair of vacuum switch units 1, 2 connected in series and arranged to interconnect or disconnect two networks 22 and A, B are each associated with an overcurrent sensing device 11, 12 used to control the switches to disconnect the networks when the current in either of them becomes excessive. The bus-bars 22 are connected to the vacuum switches through pivoted bushing isolators 18 and the cables A, B through pivoted blades 30, 31. The metal clad vacuum switch units 1, 2 which may each comprise several switches in series are mounted removably in insulating chambers 5, 6 inside metal chambers 7, 8 containing the isolators and the current transformers 11, 12; the units 1, 2 can be withdrawn for replacement through cover-plates 9, 10. The chambers 7, 8 are filled with oil or SF 6 and the chambers 5, 6 with the same or different insulant. Valves may interconnect 5, 7 and 6, 8, being automatically closed when covers 9, 10 are removed. Earthing contacts 46, 49 are provided in each isolator chamber. The three phases of the switchgear may be arranged in layers one above the other. Resistance - capacitance voltage dividing networks may be arranged about the vacuum switches.
