Abstract

The coupling device practically short-circuits high mains frequency and surge currents. It comprises a transformer with a ferrite core, with the carrier frequency applied to or collected from a first winding, while the second winding is connected in parallel with lightning arresters, which are, in turn, connected to the power line. The carrier frequency characteristic impedance and maximum mains frequency and surge currents are matched to the power line. The ferrite core must not be fully saturated by the leakage current flowing in normal operation and is so dimensioned to avoid this phenomenon. The core can also be provided with an air gap.
