Abstract
555,944. Silencing compressor valves. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. March 10, 1942, No. 3133. Convention date, April 10, 1941. [Class 8 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] In an air or gas pump or compressor of the reciprocating type having one or more suction or delivery valves automatically actuated by the fluid, vibrations of the valves are prevented by providing a passage 5 between the valve 3 and the delivery or suction pipe 4, and external to the working space 6 controlled by the valve, this passage being of such dimensions as to function as a resonator in which the fluid in the passage has approximately the same natural frequency as the valve. To avoid too long a passage 5, a stepped resonator of the Helmholtz type may be used. The application of the invention to a doubleacting pump also is described and illustrated in the Specification.
