Abstract
535,738. Rotary pumps. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Oct. 18, 1939, No. 28105. Convention date, Dec 24, 1938. [Class 110 (i)] A pumping plant comprises two. or more centrifugal &c, pumps 2, 3, Fig. 1, driven by a motor 1, the delivery of pump 2 communicating by pipe 5 with the inlet of pump 3 and also by pipe 6 and valve 8 with the main delivery pipe 7, so that against a low head they work in parallel. When the pressure in pipe 7 reaches a certain value valve 8 closes and throws the whole output of pump 2 into the inlet of pump 3, so that two pumps operate in series. In the form shown in Fig. 3, valve 14 between the delivery ends of a pump 10 and the pipe 7 is coupled by a lever 15 to a secondary valve 16 on the delivery side of a second pump 11, so that when valve 14 closes, valve 16 opens and vice versa. The valve 17 controlling the delivery of pump 11 to pipe 7 is coupled by a lever 21 to a secondary valve 22 on the delivery side of a third pump 12, so that when valve 17 closes, valve 22 opens, and vice versa.
