Abstract

552,378. Hand contact-appliances. BELITSKY, J. Oct. 1, 1941, No. 12711. [Class 38 (i)] A contact for supplying current to a workpiece in an electric welding circuit is combined with a magnet that adheres to the workpiece and has :means for reducing the magneto-motive force when the contact is to be removed. A pair of magnetic poles 10, 11 of channel form are secured together by an insulating member 16 within which slides a contact 20 having a terminal 23 for the connection of an electric supply lead 21. A yoke 25 bridges the pole pieces 10, 11 so as to complete a magnetic circuit when the poles are applied to a workpiece 29. The contact 20 is pressed against the workpiece by a spring 22. When the contact is to be removed from the workpiece the yoke 25 is turned through 90 degrees and is sufficiently narrow to leave gaps between it and the pole pieces 10, 11 which may be chamfered to widen the gaps.
