Abstract
606,881. Electromagnetic switches. O'BRIEN, J. F., and BOYNTON, E. S. Oct. 9, 1944, No. 19336. Convention date, Oct. 30, 1943. [Class 38 (v)] In an electromagnetic switch having a main base 11 carrying the fixed contacts 48, the operating coils are mounted on a sub-base 18 fixed between two spaced side members 15, and clamped in place by a bridge-piece 40 extending across and fixed to the side members 15. The two solenoids are mounted in iron cups 25 and 27 complete with pole-pieces 36 and 37, and separated by two flanged-iron spacers 29 and 30. Set-screws 41 on bridge 40 hold the assembly in place. Sliding in the centre of the coils is an armature 35 attached to a rod 38, which slides in pole-piece 37 and to which is attached the snap-spring 24 and a rectangular block 43 carrying a flat spring 44, which carries by means of rivets 45 a contact bridge 46 having contacts 47, spaced at 90 degrees with respect to the rivets, which cooperate with fixed contacts 48 in the base. Selective energization of the coils 26 and 28 operates the switch, the snap-spring holding the moving contacts in either direction. When closed, the spring 44 flexes and holds the contacts firm, preventing chatter.
