Abstract
894,378. Electromagnetic switches. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Dec. 9, 1960 [Dec. 11, 1959], No. 42491/60. Class 38 (5). A sealed magnetic contact device comprises three magnetizable members 4, 5, 6, sealed in the glass casing 1 and separated during manufacture by cutting-off their common base 7 along a line b-b. In Fig. 1, the outer members 4, 6 support non-magnetic members 9, 17, carrying fixed contacts 11, 19 which co-operate with movable contacts 15, 16 on a resilient strip 13 secured to the member 5. The contacts 15, 19 are urged into engagement by a flat spring 20 welded at 21 to the strip 13 and bearing against the inner surface of the casing 1. When a coil 24 is energized a block 22 of magnetizable material on the strip 13 is attracted to the extended end 8 of the member 4 to open contacts 15, 19 and close contacts 11, 16. In Fig. 2, the fixed contacts are on members 4, 5 and the resilient strip 13 on the member 6 is U-shaped with two magnetizable blocks 22, 25 which attract each other against the bias of a spring 26.
