Abstract

791,794. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 15, 1956, No. 18662/56. Class 38 (5). A polar relay comprises a toroidal core 1 formed by winding a magnetizable tape on a circular former and then cutting a gap 2 therein. The core has a winding 3 and slotted polepieces 5 which tightly grip the core ends. An armature 9 extending into the gap 2 is pivoted at 13 and carries contact springs 11 co-operating with fixed contacts 18. A permanent magnet 19 is held in position by its own magnetism, as disclosed in Specification 678,660, and has one pole in contact with downward extensions 20 of the polepieces 5 and the other pole opposite wings 21 of the armature. The base 6 may be insulating or of light alloy material.
