Abstract

551,323. Soot blowers. SPEARS, F. G. W., and DIAMOND BLOWER CO., Ltd. Aug. 13, 1941, No. 10311. [Class 99 (ii)] In a soot blower of the kind comprising a steam ejector 19 in a tubular casing to which steam or other pressure fluid if admitted by a valve 12 from a steam branch casing 4, the casing 4 is formed with a bore 5 leading to the steam chest 1 and a bore 6 in which fits the inner end of the steam chest; the bores 5, 6 terminate at a single end face 7 of the casing 4, so that a steamtight joint is formed by a single packing element 8 located in one plane. As shown, a flange 2 on the steam chest 1 is secured by bolts 3 to the face 7 of the casing 4 and the steam chest 1 is provided with a seat 10 for the valve 12 on the stem of the ejector 19. The operation of the ejector and valve is effected by the rotation of a screwed spindle 17 engaging in a fixed nut having an extension provided with a helical slot 15 engaged by a pin 16 carried by a piston 14 on the stem 13, as described in Specification 551,322.
