Abstract
453,205. Soot blowers. SIMPSON, J. W. L., Sherwood, Mostyn Avenue, Littleover, Derby. March 5, 1935, No. 6902. [Class 99 (ii)] In a soot blower comprising a conduit which is constituted by tubes 9, 10, 11 and a nozzled tube 12 and is rotatable within the usual housing 6 by worm and wormwheel mechanism 7, 8, the supply of cleaning fluid to the nozzles 12 of the tube 12 is controlled by a valve 17 located within a casing 4 which is bolted to the housing 6 and is provided with a fluid inlet passage 2. The valve 17 is normally pressed upon a seating 16 in a ported extension 14 of the tube 9 by a spring 18, and it is opened to permit cleaning fluid to pass through the ports 13 in the extension 14 to the blower conduit by the engagement of one or more cam parts 24 at the end of said extension with like parts 25 on a flange 17 of the valve upon rotation of the conduit. The pressure of the spring 18 may be adjusted by a screw 20 threaded through a cap 4 on the casing 4, and rotation of the valve is prevented by slots 21 therein which are engaged by lugs 22 on the cap 4. The nozzle tube 12 is axially and/or radially adjustable with respect to the tube 10, and fluidtightness between the tubes 9, 10, 11 and housing 6 is effected by packing rings 26, 29, 31, 37. The housing 6 may be provided with inlets 6 for the admission of cooling air to the space around the nozzle tube.
