Abstract

579,594. Fluid-heater cleaners. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and MAcCONVILLE, G. Feb. 2, 1945, No. 2716. [Class 99 (ii)] A fluid-heater cleaner, Fig. 1, with a cleanerfluid pressure chamber 4 in which the blower element 2 is free to rotate and move axially has a seal 11 at the forward end and a sealing ring 103 of asbestos and copper wire at its rear end, Fig. 6, compressed by the member 104 so that it will make a fluid-tight seal on the enlarged portion 106 of the blower element in the advanced position (as shown) but will only have light or no pressure on the reduced portion 107 in the retracted position, and a valve 6 which only permits the flow of cleaner-fluid to said chamber, when opened by a cam 1 which when the blower element is advanced to make the rear seal, coacts with a roller 24 and valve rocker 18, 19. The fluid enters the blower element through the ports 13 and is discharged through the nozzle 14. The diameter of the blower element at the forward end is greater than that at the rear end so that the pressure in the chamber 4 tends to bias the element into the advanced position. Rotary motion is imparted to the blower element through the train of gears 40, 41, 42, and 43, the latter having a hub 44 connected to the element by a key 49 slidable in the keyway 48, actuated through the universal joint 39 by a hydraulic or other motor 38. A pointer 63 is attached to the tapered spigot 56 so as to indicate the position of the nozzle 14 on the dial 58. The hydraulic or other pressuremoved piston 72 working in the cylinder 64 imparts axial motion to the blower element through the links 71, 74 and 76 and the saddle piece 81 working in the sheave-like member 82 attached to the blower element. Specifications 532,692 and 567,166 are referred to and the Provisional Specification refers to Specification 576,077.
