Abstract

245,821. Beldam, G. W. Oct. 9, 1924. Packing, non-metallic; connected to source. of high or low pressure.-Packing for a shaft or rod consists of rubber compound 4 contained in a casing 5 and having in its wearing face helical or other channels 6 supplied with water or other lubricating liquid. The casing 5 and the packing may be in sections, being pressed on to the rod by springs and liquid pressure, e.g. of the lubricating liquid. The liquid may enter the stuffing-box by a pipe 11 and be removed by a pipe 12. End pressure may be exerted on the packing by screws 14. Specification 159,473, [Class 12 (ii), Lubricating passages &c.], is referred to.
