Abstract

551,212. Vehicle lamp masks. ARMSTRONG, R. H. Oct. 28, 1941,.Nos. 13835 and 13836.. [Class 75 (iv)] A vehicle lamp mask comprises a carrier disc 1 secured to the front of the lamp by the usual glass-holding ring, and formed with a rectangular aperture covered with a mica or ground glass sheet 3, a tubular body of approximately rectangular cross-section comprising a top member or cowl 4, side walls 5-and a bottom member 6 having rear flanges welded to the disc 1, in front of the sheet 3, and a baffle plate assembly consisting of slotted rectangular plates 10 secured by tongues to slotted side plates 11 welded to the side walls 5. The plates 10 are inclined forwardly slightly or are arranged in echelon rising towards the rear so that the top of any slot in the front plate lies no higher than the bottom of the corresponding slot in corresponding rear plate to prevent the emergence of upwardly directed rays. Rays at such an inclination as to pass upwardly through all the slots are arrested by the cowl 4. According to the Provisional Specifications the upper edges of the slots of alternate plates and the lower edges of the slots of the intermediate plates may be turned back towards the light source. According to the second Provisional Specification louvred openings at the side or sides of the mask allow the passage of downwardly directed light rays to illuminate the sides of the road. 551,227. Pocket igniters. COLLINS, J. H., and PEARLMAN & CO., Ltd., B. Nov. 12, 1941, No. 14550. [Class 75 (iii)] A pyrophoric igniter comprises a hollow body of moulded artificial resin having secured to its reduced upper end a metal plate 7 formed with a raised aperture 11 to receive the wick and a second aperture in which is soldered a tube 4 carrying a striking wheel 14, a flint, and a spring tensioned by a screw 15. The top of the body 1 is formed with apertures 2, 3 for the passage of the wick and tube 4 and the bottom is closed by a threaded plug 6. A cap 8 of artificial resin is a sliding fit or is threaded on the upper part of the body. The plate 7 is provided with a cylindrical flange or tongues 9 threaded or held frictionally on the body 1.
