Abstract

542,855. Masks for vehicle lamps BRYDE, E. A. Nov. 13, 1940, No. 16424. [Class 75 (iv)] A vehicle head-lamp mask comprising a sheet metal disc or filter fitting the head lamp aperture and formed with'rectangular slots 2, 3, 4, 5, a rectangular casing 6, and a front filter 7 slotted to correspond with the rear filter 1 is provided adjacent the ends of the slots with parabolically curved reflecting strips 14 to increase the lateral spread of the beam. The mask may be fitted on its rear surface with a frosted glass diffuser plate 11 secured in position by the screws 12 which secure the casing to the filter 1. The strips 14 may have bent ends passing through the filter 1 and clamped in position by the plate 11. Additional filters 8, 9, 10 may be provided in the casing 6, the rear filters 9, 10 being notched to support the front ends of the strips 14. The slots in the filters are so arranged that the issuing light is directed below the horizontal. A flap 23 pivoted at the front of the casing may be turned downwardly when the headlamp is not in use to exclude dirt and damp.
